Trip to the Oldest Capital in MesoAmerica

An old Monastery in Antigua.  There were 37 Catholic Churches and monasteries in Antigua at one time.  They had a series of earthquakes that destroyed most of them (we think in the 1700s) that drove the wicked people out of Antigua.  After they left, they didn't have anymore earthquakes.

This old Monastery has been converted into a 5 star Hotel.  It is
really lovely.

The Hotel is named Santa Domingo

Restaurant

Beautiful outdoor patio

Behind Ernie are old Crypts where they buried the  Arch Bishops.

Walkway to underground tunnels that once
were throughout the city from church to church
 (Monasteries to Convents)

Underground hallway

These Parrots are in the outside Patios.
They are not caged.

Downtown Antigua (look up online) Note the OLD stone
streets!  They were a challenge for Zoe to walk on.

Old church still in use now

City of Antigua

They call this Cathedral the Birthday Cake because of it's
unusual color.  The story is that it was originally painted
with egg yolks!
